I do always INTEND to stick to a blog schedule, and then things just…get away from me.
But anyway, this week the adventure was SUPPOSED to be a three-day walking/camping/hiking trip on the coast, which would have involved 1) going outside and 2) physical exercise, two things which I profess to hate the most. I was excited, though – unfortunately the campground was all booked out, so we IMPROVISED.
Instead we went to a place called Bungonia and went caving. I don’t have any pictures of the caving experience because…um, it’s a cave. It’s dark. And our caving suits were ridiculously unattractive. But basically, there’s a lot of climbing and darkness and when we all put out our head-lamps, you could not even see your hand in front of your face.
I was convinced to do this fun thing called the “Duck-Under,” which was like a human-sized tube you had to crawl through, and I was convinced I was going to die. Lucky I’m not claustrophobic! And the particular cave we were doing (called Grill Cave) had a WEE bit of a problem with carbon dioxide, so after a while breathing became a little interesting.
Anyway, here’s a few photos of the camping/walking parts.
Our little campsite // I almost died walking up the cliff to this lookout but it was worth it
The fam (guess who’s the one in the Ravenclaw shirt?) // I don’t even know
And book mail has returned!
I have to admit, the book mail drought was a bit of a relief. I got to read some books that didn’t have a deadline!
But this week I received some AMAZING new books.
BONE GAP by Laura Ruby – I bought this because certain people recommended it and I just had to have the hardcover, okay?
IRIS AND THE TIGER by Leanne Hall – this one’s thanks to Text Publishing, and it’s an Aussie YA/MG so that’s exciting!
MY SISTER ROSA by Justine Larbalestier – OH MY GOD YOU GUYS. I’ve already read this and it’s my first five-star read of the year. Utterly phenomenal (and I’m going to one of her talks – eeeeeek).
SUMMER SKIN by Kirsty Eagar – because I’ve only heard amazing things about Kirsty Eagar (and hopefully I’ll be meeting her as well! Oh happy day!)
(Those two are thanks to the lovely people at Allen and Unwin)
Other things of note –
My mum commented on my blog.
The cover for ACOMAF was released!
The UK/ANZ one was like LOL, let’s take out all the pretty details.
OH, and I’ve also been doing a lot of Bookstagramming lately.
I’ve also been madly rewriting Wanderland.
Well, not madly. I keep getting distracted by dumb games on my phone (I had to ban myself…it was a sad time for us all).
But I’ve cut almost 10,000 words (that I’ll probably add back but shhh) and created a monumental plot hole.
I love writing.
And I think that’s it for me this week! Stay tuned for reviews of Carry On and George as well as (finally) my End-of-Year-Book Survey (what, halfway through January is too late? No way)
