Let’s not talk about the several dozen books I already have on my TBR. Or the fact that it’s only September. Or the fact that I should be doing my assignments rather than looking through 2018 Goodreads list.

This is important stuff, okay? And the people have a right to know. Let’s get started.

BENEATH THE SUGAR SKY

Look at that COVER. I’ve loved the other two companion books and without even know what this one’s about, I’m excited for it.

LIFEL1K3

Somehow I’ve become more of a sci-fi person this year, and Jay Kristoff’s writing only keeps getting better. Let’s not talk about how long it took me to realise this reads “lifelike” and is not just random garbled letters.

THE BELLES

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL COVER. It’s about a world where Beauty is a commodity valued more than anything. It looks amazing, basically.

THE HAZEL WOOD

This girl’s grandmother is the author of some really dark fairytales, and this sounds like an extension of those dark fairytales. Plus, what an amazing title. Sign me the hell up.

FROM TWINKLE, WITH LOVE

WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI is only the most adorable book ever. So I’m incredibly excited about this one, which follows aspiring film-maker Twinkle.

A GIRL LIKE THAT

Multiple POVs, some death, some mystery, and the exploration of race, gender and identity. This looks absolutely incredible.

LEAH ON THE OFF-BEAT

I didn’t know I needed a book about a drummer bi girl until I heard about this book. But now I want it more than anything in my life.

LOVE AND OTHER CARNIVOROUS PLANTS

I’m SLIGHTLY dubious at this one because it could be very bad, but it also could be very good. And the protagonist is slightly older than your average YA characters, which I’m always on the look-out for (being, you know, over the hill at the ripe old age of twenty).

THE LADY’S GUIDE TO PETTICOATS AND PIRACY

“Narrated by Felicity and featuring travel, pirates, and a science girl gang.” DO I EVEN NEED TO KNOW MORE?

CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE

Zélie has to BRING BACK MAGIC. You know who loves magic? Me. And you know who loves diverse fantasy? Me. I’m so excited for this one.

THE MUSE OF NIGHTMARES

I was absolutely blown away by STRANGE THE DREAMER so I am v v excited for this.

THE DANGEROUS ART OF BLENDING IN

So this one looks like it’s about drawing, a boy, churches and dealing with abuse. It looks absolutely brilliant.

NICE TRY, JANE SINNER

Honestly, they had me at “student-run reality show.” This one has a really refreshing concept and looks like it’ll be a really fun read.

BLANCA & ROJA

“Snow-White & Rose-Red meets Swan Lake, in which two sisters become rivals in a game that will turn the losing girl into a swan.” UM. I DON’T THINK I’VE EVER NEEDED A BOOK MORE THAN THIS ONE. Plus, Anna-Marie McLemore has a proven track record at being just amazing.

THE ASTONISHING COLOR OF AFTER

So this one’s about Leigh, who visits Taiwan to see her maternal grandparents and find her mother, whom she is convinced has turned into a bird after committing suicide. I’m cautiously optimistic because it sounds absolutely wonderful.

This is not even a full list of the books I’m anticipating. Yikes.

You can view my full shelf here.

I think I need a support group. We can call ourselves “The Readers Who Whinge About How Many Books They Have To Read Rather Than Actually Reading Them.” I’m sure it’ll be very popular.

So tell me – which 2018 books are you excited for? Or are you still dealing with 2017?
